Being an Orthodontist
I am lucky and privileged to be an orthodontist. I decided to become one after I had braces in my late teens to fix my crowded teeth; it is amazing how with orthodontics we can enhance a person’s quality of life, their oral health, and their overall body wellness!
Although for many teenagers going through braces is a rite of passage and they may not have especially positive feelings about the experience, for many others that healthy, beautiful smile at the end of treatment makes it all worthwhile. They love their new smile and they can’t stop smiling; that’s my greatest satisfaction and the best compliment a patient can give to me. I am truly grateful to be able to build real relationships with my patients, whether they are children, adolescents or adults, and to be able to make a small difference in this world, one person at a time.
My Education and Continuing Education
- Bachelor of Science – University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
- Doctorate of Dental Surgery – Columbia University
- Master of Science and orthodontic training – University of Illinois at Chicago
I’m a firm believer in continuing education, no matter what one’s profession. This is especially true for those of us in oral healthcare, where there are constant developments that result in more effective care for our patients. By attending meetings, lectures, and seminars, I am able to stay up to date on current treatment mechanics and approaches, which ensures my patients have access to proven, gentle orthodontic options.

Outside the Office
I grew up in South America, so besides English, I am also fluent in Spanish and Chinese. The South Bay has been my home for the past 20+ years. When time allows, I love exploring hiking trails and visiting new places near and far. We are blessed in the Bay Area to be surrounded by so many beautiful natural wonders; if you have a favorite hiking trail, be sure to let me know!
